Worst pothole season ever being expected
Monday, 6th December 2010
As the Arctic conditions that paralyzed Britain over recent weeks begin to recede, the nation’s motorists are being told they should be ready to deal with the worst pothole season the UK has ever seen. Pothole experts are saying the roads of Britain should end up with more damage from this icy weather than UK highways have ever experienced before.
Road surface conditions are expected to degrade incredibly quickly over future months. The stark warning was offered by spokesperson from website Potholes.co.uk.
Insurance provider Warranty Direct runs the web site. The firm says it is expecting to see a sudden, major increase in the numbers of claims being submitted for damage to suspensions and axles over coming weeks.
The winter weather normally plays havoc with the road surface, as wide variations in temperature plus the effects of both ice and water cause major damage. As the recent cold snap arrived very suddenly and the fact that it brought many waves of ice, snow, grit and freezing temperatures, Britain’s road network is likely to require lots of repair work. Meanwhile, the many potholes could be hard to avoid, causing damage to vehicles.
