EasyJet expected to announce strong results

Monday, 15th November 2010

EasyJet is expected to post some positive results on Tuesday, as the airline industry overall recovers from a difficult 12 months. Last month, the carrier raised its profit forecast after the number of travellers heading for sunspots went up.

Aviation in general has seen a boost of late as premium traffic recovers, amid an improving global economy. British Airways just announced its first half-year profits in two years as it, too, enjoys a recovery in business.

Following the upgraded profit forecast, analysts now expect easyJet to post pre-tax profits for the full year of £154.5 million. This would be a 300 per cent improvement over the £54.7 million easyJet posted a year ago.

EasyJet’s finances this year have recovered strongly this year, despite the impact of the Icelandic ash cloud, which forced the grounding of flights for a week during April. EasyJet will also be buoyed by having resolved its difficult battle with easy brand founder, Sir Stelios Haji-Ioannou. That extended dispute was finally ended earlier this year.

Overall, aviation is enjoying a positive week. Authorities in Europe and the USA recently approved Delta Airlines and its partners expanding services between Gatwick Airport and Boston and Miami in the USA. Concern over the blow out of a Rolls-Royce engine on a Qantas A380 was allayed as the engine maker announced it had identified a faulty component and only the Trent 900 is involved.
