Parking enforcement tightened at Heathrow

Monday, 19th July 2010

Parking officials at Heathrow Airport are introducing a raft of measures to crack down on parking behaviours they see as being dangerous and inconsiderate. Officials will patrol parking areas and issue penalties for vehicles parked in contravention of the terms and conditions of using Heathrow parking.

Starting 2 August, uniformed parking officers will patrol Heathrow facilities. Anyone found to be parking in breach of the rules will receive a parking enforcement notice. Vehicles must be parked within lines and only in designated bays. Use of spaces for the disabled, for motorcycles or for high-sided vehicles must also comply with regulations.

To begin with, the parking enforcement notices will only carry a Parking Enforcement Charge. After the end of August, however, the penalty will be a stiff £90, assuming the driver pays within 28 days. For those who pay within 21 days, the charge drops to £45.

According to Fraser Brown, who heads up travel services at Heathrow Airport, the airport’s main priority is the safety and security of passengers. The new parking enforcement is expected to result in a better experience for passengers using the airport’s short-stay car parks.
