East Midlands Airport launching revamped parking

Thursday, 8th July 2010

East Midlands Airport will this week complete a major redevelopment of its short-stay parking area. The parking area has now been re-arranged into five zones. The new layout now includes areas for blue-badge holders, for short-term parking, and car hire. A new dedicated area for dropping off of passengers has also been launched.

In another big change, the drop-off zone will cost £1. Conveniently closer to the terminal, the rapid drop-off area will give motorists up to ten minutes to drop off passengers. A new automatic number-plate recognition system will handle cars that have pre-booked parking.

The raft of changes was implemented with plenty of feedback from customers. The redesigned parking and drop-off arrangements are aimed at speeding the flow of traffic at peak times. The old free ten-minute option in the short- term parking area has been replaced. Motorists now get an hour of parking free in the long-stay car park and the bus trip between the car park and the terminal is free.

Airport managing director Penny Coates said the changes had been implemented in order to ease travel for passengers and to meet customer needs at the airport. Apcoa, which runs car parking operations at many UK airports, will manage parking at East Midlands Airport.
