Delayed Ryanair passengers get water, chocolate from police

Monday, 28th June 2010

Angry air passengers stuck on the tarmac at Prestwick Airport were brought water and chocolate by members of the Strathclyde police force. The airline called police after passengers became agitated. The flight, bound for the Spanish destination of Girona, was stuck on the ground in the UK because of delays arising out of strike by French air-traffic controllers.

After several hours stuck in the aircraft, many passengers had grown increasingly upset. Though passengers were allowed to use the toilets and make calls on their mobile phones, cabin crew were unable to provide food or water. Passengers were also not allowed to leave the plane to buy their own water or food. In addition, the law precluded the airline providing alcohol.

Ryanair finally called in police to calm the situation. Police announced that they were going to get some food and water for passengers. When they returned five minutes later with bottles of water for all of the passengers, they received a big cheer from the crowd. Police made no arrests and the flight finally departed almost six hours after it was originally scheduled to leave.
