Heathrow clamping down on dodgy parking

Monday, 14th June 2010

Airport operator BAA is implementing a strict new parking enforcement programme to tackle a range of problems in its short-stay car parks. The new system will address problems that cause everything from danger to delays.

Starting 1 July, uniformed parking officers will patrol Heathrow’s short-stay parking areas. They will be on the lookout for vehicles parked in contravention of the Terms and Conditions of using Heathrow Airport’s Short Stay Car Parks.

Vehicles found to be in breach of the rules will be issued with notices. Notices will be applied where vehicles are incorrectly parked in disabled parking bays, outside designated parking areas or outside clearly marked lines. Also, low-sided vehicles parked in parking designated for high-sided vehicles will be targeted.

Initially, notices will only warn drivers about their infringement of the rules. From 1 July, parking officers will issued Parking Enforcement Notices. From 1 August, parking infractions will attract Penalty Enforcement Notices. Drivers who receive a Penalty Enforcement Notice will have 28 days to pay a fine of £90, reduced to £45 for those who pay within 21 days. Any profits generated from the issuance of Penalty Enforcement Notices will go towards funding improvements at Heathrow Airport through the Public Transport Levy.
