Kingfisher Airlines has announced that it will be offering a new pilots’ training scheme from Mumbai. The airline, which has been named India’s first five-star carrier by Skytrax, will now have the capability to run a pilot ground training course known as the Joint Aviation Authorities Airline Transport Pilot License (JAA ATPL).

A technical arrangement with Aviation Pacific Europe has made the training possible and it will now be the first of its kind outside of Europe and the US. The course comprises of 650 study hours on no less than 14 different subjects. The training methods are classroom teaching and an advanced distance-learning program.

The qualification will offer pilots the chance to work for the intensive qualification as an opportunity to enhance their knowledge and challenge themselves academically. After the seventh year of taking the JAA ATPL, the pilots will also be expected to have completed certain flying requirements.

It is also hoped that the introduction of the scheme will enhance the job prospects of more than 3,000 Indian CPL holders. Both Aviation Pacific Europe and the Kingfisher Training College will be running the course in Mumbai, and examinations will be conducted by the UK Civil Aviation Authorities and the British Council.
