The Police Force in Liverpool has begun to ride on the bus system in an effort to try and prevent racism to local Muslim students from occurring. The measure, by the local constabulary, is said to have come about after several complaints were made involving girls that attended the Holly Lodge Girls College in West Derby. The majority of the incidents were verbal abuse and the police said that they were acting in various ways to try to prevent this from rising into something more.

Merseyside Police, who have no suspects in the racism incidents, have said that they first came to know about abuse at a community meeting. Another meeting was called with the police and the community specifically about the racial abuse the girls were receiving when trying to get to school. Due to these meetings, chief inspector Jeanette Wrigley has said that those services will now have a Police Community Support Officer on board to try, tackle, and distance problems.

As well as the police presence on the bus routes, the local force said that they have retrieved CCTV footage from the buses in question and hope to get identification or some footage to try to capture the culprit of the incidents. However, the police are aiming at preventing such incidents like these from happening in the first place by going into schools and trying to educate the potential perpetrators when they are still at an impressionable age.
