The preparation for a third runway at Heathrow and a new terminal are to face legal proceedings pushed against them from environmentalist groups, local residents and councils in the area. The will argue in the High Court that the consultation process was flawed because not only will a new runway take away a small village, it will also have consequences on a much wider level bringing a once serene area into clamor and effluence. In court, they will challenge the plans on an environmental level saying that it will affect the atmosphere change goals and that there is a lack of public transport to be able to cope with the further development.
The group avers that the decision to expand Heathrow Airport was nothing more than a quick-fix solution to an old problem. The airport is already full with flights coming in and out all day long and this would facilitate them to open more landing slots for more aircrafts. More people are travelling by air these days because of how cheap it has become, and Heathrow is also an international nucleus and one of the cheapest in Europe compared to its local rivals. Adding the additional runway and terminal will increase the traffic flow to the area. This is why 90% of those that did respond to the consultation were against the plan, it made no divergence though and the UK Government gave the thumbs up. The Government has not said much, except they will defend themselves in court.
