Farringdon to become London’s largest transportation hub

Tuesday, 1st December 2009

Farringdon is poised to become the largest recipient of Network Rail’s grand expansion plans. The plan outlines the making of Farringdon into London’s largest and busiest transport hub. The total investment is estimated to be around 250 million pounds. To make way for an integrated Crossrail and Thameslink ticket hall, the Cardinal tower has been demolished.

Since Farringdon is the major recipient in London’s railway network improvement plan, it is predicted that there will be a much better access to quite a few of the country’s major gateways. Travellers will be allowed to commute across the city on brand new Thameslink and Crossrail trains.

The work is scheduled to be completed in 2017. After that milestone, Farringdon will be in a position to manage around 140 trains every hour. Each one of the two international rail stations and London’s four major airports will be connected to Farringdon station.

Farringdon will reportedly be transformed into London’s premier transport hub. It will be the only station from which passengers will be offered access to London’s underground services, Crossrail and Thameslink. The government’s plans to increase infrastructure all around the UK, which include the multi-billion pound investment into more efficient services, will greatly benefit all the commuters that will travel through London and the UK.
