London Oxford Airport welcomes pets
Thursday, 15th October 2009
For many people, one of the biggest concerns when planning a holiday is what to do with their beloved pet. Some people feel that leaving behind their dog or cat is like having to part with a family member.
However, thanks to the new Government approved Pet Travel Scheme, British holidaymakers and businessmen are now able to take their precious pooches and cuddly cats with them when they fly.
The London Oxford Airport recently became one of the first few airports to be a certified as UK entry point for pets. In order to meet the new demands from customers, staff has been specially trained in ways to meet and greet the furry passengers, which includes checking pet passports, scanning animal microchips and carry out pre-disembarkation checks.
Although they may have been training hard, it seems that staff members are happy to take on the new role. As David Surley, London Oxford Airport’s head of customer services revealed in an interview: “We’re thrilled to be only the second business jet centre and one of only a handful of UK airports that’s fully equipped to handle inbound pets from overseas. The regulations are some of the most rigid in operation worldwide, but they’re a lifeline for those who wish or need to travel with their furry friends. This development is an unusual but extremely well-liked diversification from the airport’s standard business aviation activities.”
