BA announce true travel budgets

Monday, 29th June 2009

This week, leading airline British Airways announced plans to launch a "value calculator" on its website. The tool will allow passengers to ensure that there are no hidden extras on their flight ticket by selecting each and every detail for themselves. Passengers can then calculate and compare the price of a BA ticket compared to rival companies Ryanair and easyJet.

Simon Evans, chief executive of the AUC said in a recent interview by the Telegraph that he supports BA’s new policy: "Anything that makes the costs of flights with all the added charges more transparent is something we support. However, we urge passengers to check out the figures for themselves with each airline before making assumptions.”

Richard Tams, head of sales at BA insists that the airline have introduced the value calculator to prove to customers that their tickets really are excellent value: "It's been well documented that some of the no-frills carriers charge for a range of 'extras' that we consider to be part of our core service, from checking in a bag to food and drinks on board. The no-frills carriers claim they are always cheaper. Our calculator shows they are not."

Whether or not you’re happy to take British Airways at their word, the value calculator should make it easier to assess ticket costs and pick the best deal.
