Indian travel firms cash in on natural phenomenon
Thursday, 25th June 2009
Travel firms across India are preparing for a solar eclipse that is due to take place on July 22nd and has been forecast as the longest solar eclipse of the 21st century. The natural occurrence can be witnessed from a Boeing aircraft that will fly above the clouds over Gaya as travel companies look to make money from interested star gazers.
Some firms are even laying on workshops in China to learn more about the fascinating happenings and Cox and Kings are offering the ultimate experience with a front row seat to the spectacle. A window seat on a Boeing 737-700 will set you back between £300 and £1,000 to watch the three hour eclipse and the right hand side of the plane will witness the ‘sun side’ and the left side will get see the shadow on the earth.
“This is the first time we have attempted this journey. We already have a number of bookings,” says Cox and Kings executive director Arup Sen. The flight will head towards Gaya from New Delhi and reach a height of 41,000 feet where the plane will catch the centre of the shadow.
