Airline cannot bear it on board
Thursday, 7th May 2009
A little girl was unable to take her teddy bear on board a flight on Monday from Glasgow to Stansted. The overzealous check in worker refused to let Bebe the bear ride in the cabin with her owner, six year old Alba Peris.
The un-known worker for Easyjet cited that Bebe was effectively carry-on luggage and with the rules saying that only one piece of hand luggage per person was permitted the teddy bear would have to go in the hold at a cost of nine pounds. Alba and her mother were on a weekend trip to Scotland from their home in Cambridge and she commented. “I didn't want to pay excess baggage. I felt I'd already paid for our tickets. Also, Alba didn't like the thought of her teddy travelling alone in the big, dark hold."
John Douglas a friend of the family took them to the airport Monday morning and witnessed the whole incident. He was left holding the bear and commented, "I'm very angry about this - the wee girl was very, very upset.”
Easyjet offered to pay for the postage of the teddy bear back to Alba. "We operate a strict rule whereby each passenger is allowed one bag. However, we also have common sense and, normally, a child would be allowed to carry a teddy.” said an Easyjet spokesman to the Daily Record.
