Norwich airport defends car parking fees

It takes several hours from Norwich to reach popular shopping and nightlife destinations in the North East by train or car, but Elliott Summers, who is the managing director at Norwich International Airport, wants to cut down journey times by adding more services.

Earlier this month, Which? Holiday magazine rated the regional airport one of the best in the UK, higher than its competitor Stansted.

Summers confirmed that after a recent meeting with Flybe, that was held in Exeter, the carrier stressed that it remains committed to the Norwich airport.

The director said: “Although Flybe has removed its based aircraft this was purely a financial consolidation decision. Due to the current financial climate it has no plans to expand at Norwich in the short-term but by the same token does not intend to withdraw any existing services either.”

In related news, Summers defended fees for cark parking at Norwich Airport, which had recently come under fire. He noted that they compared favourably with fees charged at both Luton and Stansted airports.

Summers commented: “Contrary to local common perception Norwich Airport short stay car parking is much cheaper than both Luton and Stansted. At Luton they charge £1 to simply drop-off, £3 for up to 15 minutes, £6 for up to 45 minutes and so on using a sliding scale up to £30 a day.”
