Calgary’s Airport Authority has begun construction of a new Parkade facility that will accommodate 1900 vehicles. The parking facility is the first in a series of major development projects for the airport scheduled over the next 10 years, to help the facility keep pace with the 12.2 million travellers who now pass through the Calgary Airport annually. This multi-level Parkade facility, the second on site, is set to be completed by December of 2009, increasing the number of spaces available to more than 5000.
The new $85 million Parkade will also provide parking space, functioning as one of the first of the new Parkades for the expanded use of the East Concourse, which will accommodate the growth in international passenger numbers.
During the various construction phases of the Parkade, drivers will face displacement and the re-configuration of the current roadway access to the Arrivals and Departures areas. There will be signage and detour roadways to help ease congestion, and updated information will be available on calgaryairport.com.
The Calgary Airport Authority is responsible for the overall operational management, maintenance and development projects for both the Calgary International Airport and Springbank Airport, under a long-term lease agreement with the Canadian government.
