It’s about to cost more to park at the Philadelphia Airport, beginning at the end of the week.

Parking rates will increase for periods of more than two hours. For 30 minutes to one hour, the fees will remain the same, at $3 for a half hour and $5 for a full hour – in garages and at short-term parking lots.

Three hours’ parking in a garage and at the short-term lots will cost more, increasing from $13 to $15.

A flat rate will be charge a the economy lot for daily parking, which also increases by $2, up to $11 per day, reported Linda Miller, a spokeswoman for the airport’s parking authority.

The fee for 24 hours’ parking at a short-term will not increase, but remain at $38. Garage parking for 24 hours will increase by $3, from $17 to $20.

According to Miller the rate increases will add $6 million in gross annual revenue to the airport’s coffers.

The net income from the fee increases will be used to help keep fees that airlines pay for gate rents and other facilities from rising.

Airlines that operate out of the Philadelphia International Airport, who are all trying to coping with rising fuel costs, have asked airport officials to find ways of keeping the costs they charge airlines "relatively flat," said Charles Isdell, the acting aviation director at the facility.

"The airlines are looking for every way possible to reduce their costs of doing business," Isdell added.
