Parking fees for international passengers at Sydney’s airport have doubled for anyone leaving a vehicle for longer than

The Sydney Airport, owned by Macquarie Bank, closed its remote, long-term car parking facility early in July, and relocated it to a new, multi-storey facility that’s situated closer to the terminal building.

The bad news for travellers, however, is that costs have risen to $50 for the first day’s parking, up from the $25 charged at the previous car park, and to $99 for 2-3 days of parking, as compared with $50 previously.

Seven-day rates have increased from $110 to $139, and costs for additional days have risen from $12 to $20.

Thirty minutes to one hour of parking at both the domestic and international terminals has increased by $1, to $15.

The new international car park opened early last week, at the same time the airport was levelling attacks on the state government for its public transport services that they considered to be well below standards in other countries.

Also, is spite of doubling parking rates for international travellers, the airport administration claimed in a letter to the federal government that fares on the Airport Rail Link were too high.

Consumer group Choice commented on this complaint: "There's a delicious irony that Macquarie Airports complains about the standard of the bus and train access to the airports while at the same time discouraging people from using the rational alternative, which would be their motor vehicle,'' spokesman Christopher Zinn said.”

"They've already, by other people's analysis, got some of the most expensive airport parking in the world.''
