Airport parking could be environmentally friendly

According to one parking provider at Gatwick Airport, using airport parking facilities is one way travelers can help reduce the environmental impact of their travel. Parking at the airport can cut greenhouse gas emissions, according to a press release from Help Me Park.

Help Me Park claims that it’s Meet and Greet parking services “can genuinely help a traveller reduce their carbon footprint.”

The Gatwick-based company says that using parking services “genuinely means that travellers use less fuel and omit fewer harmful emissions than if getting family, friends or business colleagues to undertake the traditional ‘airport run’”.

Help Me Park compared the environmental impact of having friends or family drive a travelers to the airport to drop them off, then make the return trip later to pick them up. For someone who lived 80 miles from Gatwick Airport, using Meet and Greet parking services could save them 146 miles in a car’s carbon emissions.

Help Me Park’s parking facility is seven miles from the airport, so parking on the airport grounds could save an additional 14 miles for the environmentally conscious traveler, although with heavy bags, a large family, or a tight time frame, Meet and Greet services can be more convenient.
