Woman runs up $800 parking bill for 8 minutes of parking

When Sue Cresswell dropped a friend off at the Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, she had no idea the favor would cost her $800.

According to Cresswell, she didn’t even park. Instead, she dropped her friend off, spending less than eight minutes in the airport compound.

Cresswell says she was given a ticket from the toll booth and proceeded quickly to the Frontier Airlines drop-off area, where she said goodbye to her friend. She left the airport grounds within eight minutes.

"The toll booth agent asked me, did I have another ticket?" Cresswell said.

He then proceeded to give her a ticket for $870. Instead of paying, she went home and tried to solve the problem on her own. Instead, things got worse. Past-due notices were sent to the wrong address and not received by Cresswell. As a result she was charged a $15 late fee.

"I got a final notice letter that I owed $885 for this eight minutes in the airport," Cresswell said.

A spokesperson from the airport claimed that the bill was the result of a computer airport and said that all fees in Cresswell’s case had been waived, including her $2 short term parking fee.

"If it was someone else other than me, they might have paid the $870," Cresswell said.

Cresswell recommends that everyone check their ticket when entering an airport parking zone and verify the correct price has been charged when leaving.

"Check your ticket, make sure you know when you enter the airport, what terminal you're going to and possibly a copy of the itinerary if you're dropping someone off," Cresswell said.

The airport spokesperson was quick to reassure the public that glitches such as the one experienced by Cresswell are rare and only incur infrequently.
