Road work may cause some delay driving to Stansted

Today, major roadworks will begin taking place on the highway near Stansted Airport. Essential maintenance will be taking place on the M11, according to an announcement by the Highways Agency.

Construction will be underway between junction eight and the area 350 meters south of the Stansted Road Bridge at Elsenham.

Work on the two mile section near Bishop’s Stortford includes laying a new surface on the road which helps reduce noise. In addition, workers will be taking out the old safety barrier and putting in a new, concrete barrier in the central reservation.

While the construction takes place, a contraflow will be in place 24 hours a day. There will be only one lane of traffic on the northbound entry slip road accessing the M11 at J8 and a 50 mile per hour speed limit will be introduced for the duration of the construction.

Drivers heading to the airport are being advised to allow some extra time in their travel plans to ensure that they arrive on time. The work will continue from today until the middle of July and is expected to be completed in time for the busy school summer holiday season.
