Passengers can now use a new drop off zone in front of Glasgow AirportA new airport drop off and pick up zone has been in created at Glasgow Airport and will allow travellers to get off in front of the airport directly opposite the airport terminal.
The parking area was constructed at Glasgow Airport and cost £150,000 to finish. Airport officials felt the new space was necessary after the terrorist attack on the airport last summer. Until the completion of the facility, drivers have had to use a drop off area at St Andrew’s Drive. While the space was more secure, it was slightly inconvenient for passengers, who had to walk with their bags some distance to reach the terminal.
Gordon Dewar, the managing director for Glasgow Airport said: “The drop off zone on St Andrew’s Drive has served us well since the attack, and we have invested heavily to improve passenger facilities along this route. However, we fully understand that passengers want to pick up and drop off as close to the terminal as security constraints allow.”
The drop off area is big enough for up to 60 cars to use at any particular time, but all cars are limited to ten minutes in the area. Those who stay longer will face stiff fines.
Another £1.5 million is being spent by the airport on resurfacing the area around the forecourt and creating separate lanes for taxis and busses as well as pedestrian lanes.
Dewar said: “The security of our passengers is our number one priority, and we will spend whatever it takes to ensure their safety. Our new plans for the forecourt will deliver improved customer service, and increased security.”
Other changes are going on at Glasgow Airport as well, with £30 million investment in expanding the terminal. “We would ask that passengers bear with us while we carry out these necessary improvements,” pleads Dewar.
