Glasgow airport gets new scooters for parking patrolGlasgow Airport police patrolling the parking lots at the airport will now have some help. Strathclyde Police have become the country’s first police force to use the Vectrix electric maxi-scooter. Not only will the scooter save the feet of the police force and allow them to more efficiently patrol large areas, it is also environmentally friendly and completely emission free.
Although the scooters will be mainly used to patrol the airport and parking areas of Glasgow Airport, they are also capable of reaching a top speed of 62 miles per hour.
Glasgow Airport Road Policing’s Inspector Colin Pearson said: “Following a two week trial to test for performance and usability, we quickly established that the Vectrix was capable of meeting our requirements and we have since gone ahead with the purchase of the bike. “The bike will enhance our ability to enforce parking legislation and also to assist the regulation of traffic within the busy airport road system.”
More efficient policing means a higher degree of security will be achieved at all of Glasgow’s airport parking lots. Every year, Glasgow Airport handles an average of 8.8 million passengers. The airport’s parking facilities are extensive and include the Q-Park Glasgow, Airlink Parking, Direct Parking, Parksafe Glasgow, all located off the airport grounds. On the airport grounds, Glasgow Flypath NCB provides secure parking facilities just five minutes from the terminal building.
