BA moves offsite, threatens car parksAs reported in the Times newspaper, the BAA faction dealing with airport parking has been behaving badly, both by overcharging for its onsite airport parking lots, and for muscling out independent park and fly businesses outside airport property at a variety of facilities in the United Kingdom.
The recent decision to branch out operations into off-site airport parking has led to clashes with existing independent businesses and accusations leveled at BAA for bullying and threatening to shut businesses down if they didn’t comply with what BAA thought was a suitable price increase. Outside of Glasgow Airport, John McGlynn runs a lot with the Airlink Group. He says that BAA suggested he raise his annual charges from £5,000 a year to £150,000.
BAA responded to the charges by saying: ‘We are not bullying these companies. We rightly insist that if people want to offer a service they do so in a way which does not disadvantage others, including ourselves.’
