5 minutes only for Norwich drop-offs

Drivers dropping off passengers at Norwich Airport will now have a five-minute grace period to unload the passenger and their luggage, as opposed to the former rule that allowed the vehicle fifteen minutes of free time to be parked in the drop-off area in front of the terminal.

The five-minute rule has been put into action by Richard Jenner, the airport’s managing director after considerable consternation was voiced when NCP, the airport parking operator scrapped the leeway altogether, charging any car that entered a minimum of £1.90.

The first free five minutes will be followed by a charge of 50p up until 15 minutes, and £1.50 for longer stays. Jenner comments on the situation and his resolution of the problem: 'We feel that it is a fair result for everyone and I hope people will see this as a fair charge. Five minutes is the same period used by lots of other airports. We feel it is ample time to drive in and offload and hopefully everyone will agree. And Fifty pence [for up to 15 minutes] is not an extortionate amount.'
