Disaster averted as two planes nearly collideInformation has just come to light, that back on September 29th, there was a serious near-collision between two planes in the air above the runway at the airport in Marseille, France. A British Airways plane barely averted certain disaster by pulling up to avoid an incoming passenger jet form Argentina, the new reports said.
It appears that a French air traffic controller had put the two planes on the same flight path accidentally, and if it weren't for some quick thinking by the BA pilot, things could have weighed heavily on the controller's conscience.
The situation was so close that the British plane's automated collision avoidance system was activated, urgently prompting the pilot to pull up and quickly as possible. When the system is triggered, the pilot hears an urgent voice repeating 'climb, climb'.
The Aerolineas Argentinas flight was en route from Rome to Buenos Aires, and once the emergency was maneuvered, the pilot went back to the cabin to assure passengers that they were safe and that the incident was over.
When questioned about the incident, the airlines had no comments to give, other than to acknowledge that it did in fact happen.
