Several new long term parking bays have been added at San Francisco InternationalLong-term parking has now become available at four Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) stations, allowing travelers departing from San Francisco International Airport an alternative to on site airport parking.
BART has provided 100 parking spaces at the Colma, South San Francisco and San Bruno stations for airport parkers as well as 200 spaces at Billbrae, according to an announcement made on Sunday by BART's board president, Lynette Sweet.
Parking at East Bay stations is available for $5 a day while permits for Peninsula locations cost $6 a day. The permits must be purchased online. The transit company is expecting to bring in $368,000 a year in revenue from the new parking program.
Sweet said the company would work hard to ensure that parking spaces were always available for daily commuters, but she didn't think that it would be a problem. 'Here on the Peninsula we have underutilized station parking," Sweet said.
Airport parking at San Francisco International Airport costs on average $12 a day. Although passengers parking at the BART long-term parking will need to pay $3 round trip for a shuttle between Millbrae and the airport and $8.70 between Colma and the airport, they will still find themselves saving some money, especially in the long term.
