Record numbers expected at Liverpool John Lennon

Thursday, 25th August 2005

A record number of holiday-makers are expected to pass through Liverpool's John Lennon Airport (JLA) over the forthcoming Bank Holiday weekend.

With the extra traffic, passengers using the airport facilities may wish to book them in advance.

Airport car parking and accommodation can easily be pre-booked online, and will ensure that car or room space has been reserved.

It is estimated that 60,000 passengers will fly from the airport over the holiday period, an increase of 30 per cent on last year's record figure.

Earlier this month the Airport revealed that July was its busiest month ever for, with over 440,000 passengers passing through the airport - a similar figure for the whole year just over a decade ago.

A number of new airlines have launched services from Liverpool, including Ryanair, flybe, easyJet, Aer Lingus and Wizz Air, which may have contributed to the Airport's growth.

Robin Tudor, corporate affairs manager for JLA, commented: 'It's no surprise that this August Bank Holiday period is expected to be the Airport's busiest ever, following the record breaking year the Airport has already experienced.

'Once again the somewhat unsettled weather will no doubt contribute to the overseas getaway to the warmer, popular Mediterranean destinations. This year however there is an even greater choice of destinations available from Liverpool, particularly with the low cost airlines, making it even more affordable for passengers from throughout the North West to access some Summer Sun.'

The Airport is situated close the M56 and M53 and offers its customers ample, secure car parking.
