Airport handling business finds buyer

Monday, 22nd August 2005

Swissport International, which provides more than 170 airports globally with passenger and cargo handling services, has found a buyer.

Travellers using some of the UK's major airports can now rest assured that airport parking and baggage handling services will continue to the same high standard as ever.

The airport ground handling business, employing more than 1,500 staff in the UK, has been bought today for £437.7 million by Spanish company Ferrovial.

Ferrovial already manages Bristol and Belfast airports, as well as the support services firm Amey.

In the UK, it will acquire full ground handling operations, such as baggage handling and aircraft parking services, at Newcastle, Manchester, Birmingham, Gatwick and Stansted airports as part of the deal, writes icTeeside.

Customers wanting to use airport car parking can still book in the usual way on line. Pre-booking parking space usually guarantees travellers a place to park their car, which is helpful particularly in the summer months when the airports can become busy.
