BA to recommence hot meals at Heathrow

Friday, 19th August 2005

Hungry travellers will welcome the news that British Airways (BA) is to once again serve hot meals on flights from London Heathrow from next week.

The re-instatement of the meals is taking place a week after a strike by caterer Gate Gourmet that caused the airline to grind to a complete halt.

Passengers have been leaving for Heathrow extra early this week in an effort to establish the situation with their flights in plenty of time and holidaymakers travelling to Heathrow by car need not worry about additional delays if they pre-book their airport parking online.

Heathrow boasts extensive parking facilities and customers using the car parks can currently win a satellite navigation system.

Things should now return to normal, however, as Gate Gourmet, the catering firm that fired 350 staff, resulting in the strike, has said it will 'improve service levels to near normal from Monday August 22.'

This means that passengers won't have to rely on cold foods anymore, which is all that was available for the last week.

The strike, which left over 100,000 passengers stranded, is expected to cost the airline at least £30 million.
